Speaker of Parliament fulfilled his promise to Division One League clubs in Upper West Region

As promised by the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Alban Bagbin to support the three Access Bank Division One League teams in the Upper West Region with a set of jerseys and football earlier this month, he has fulfilled that.

Wa Suntaa Sporting Club received two set of jerseys and five footballs.


Maana Football Club also received two set of jerseys and five footballs.


Wa Power Sporting Club received two set of jerseys and five footballs.

The 2023/2024 Access Bank Division One League will see three teams from the region for the first time.

GFA MAKES PAYMENT TO WINNERS OF 2022/23 COMPETITIONS

Ghana Football Association makes payment to winners of 2022/23 competitions
The Ghana Football Association has made payments to winners of the various competitions in the 2022/23 football season.

These merit awards include Prize money for the winner of the betPawa Premier League, as well as the 1st and 2nd runner up, winner of the MTN FA Cup, the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, Women’s FA Cup and the Futsal Premier League.
Merit awards for Beach Soccer Premier League, the Women’s Premier Super Cup, the Division One League Super Cup and the KGL Foundation U-17 Regional Championship will be cleared as soon as the competitions come to an end.

Others include prize money for winners of each of the three zones in the Access Bank Division One League and the three clubs that finished second in Zone One, Two and Three.

Coach Rashid Gbene Suleman appointed as head coach of Exponential Football Club

Coach Rashid Gbene Suleman has been appointed as the new head coach of Exponential football club. The 2021/2022 Upper West Regional division two league champion before his appointment was the Head coach of access bank division one side Maana FC in the 2022/2023 season.
Tactical and experienced coach Rashid is one of the few FIFA licence C coaches in the Upper West Region.

He won the 2020/2021 Tumu zonal division two league as a coach with Tumu Happy Stars, he also had a successful season as head coach at Wa Zico babies FC in the 2016/2017 division two league season.


Coach Rashid had several successful moments with the Ghana education service and won the 2019 Inter Regional School festival with the Upper west team hosted in Bolgatanga.


As the club prepares for next season, we have the confidence that coach Rashid will add up his experience and technical prowess to the club’s ambitions.

Aarikuu Lucky wins the team’s top scorer of the season having scored 11 goals in the 2022/2023 Upper West Division Two League. He emerged second in the league’s top scorer of the league as his side came second in the league.

The 3rd edition of the division one league super cup date revealed

The third (3rd) edition of the Division One League Super Cup is set to come off between August 18, and September 1, 2023 in Kumasi at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Abrankese.

The 2023 edition of the cup will be an eight team mini tournament which comprise of the following teams:

Bofoakwa Tano, Young Apostles, Eleven Wonders. Nations FC, Skyy FC, Nzema Kotoko, Semper Fi FC and Hearts of Lions.

Abubakari Mumuni Sokpara resigns as head coach of Nsoatreman Football Club

The 49 year-old experienced gaffer who joined the Nsuatre based club resigns with immediate effect after sending his resignation letter to the club on Monday, July 17, 2023.

The reasons behind his resignation are yet to be known as they are not stated in his letter.

Abubakari Mumuni Sokpara led Nsoatreman Football Club to the semifinals of the 2022/2023 MTN FA Cup which they lost to King Faisal FC by 3:2.

Coach Maxwell Konadu is one the names being strongly linked to the club.

Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih supports Wa Power Sporting Club

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih have supported Wa Power Sporting Club with GHC10,000.00 ahead of the upcoming Access Bank Division One League after the team had paid a courtesy call on the first gentleman of the region.

The minister have advised the team on football issues and encouraged them to still work more in order to achieve their aim.

Wa Power Sporting Club won the 2022/2023 Upper West Regional Division Two League unbeaten under the auspices of Coach Aziz Kandumah John.

Division One Clubs in the Upper West Region to receive donation from Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament

Division One Clubs in the Upper West Region are set to receive jerseys and footballs from the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin as part of his effort to supports the growth of sports in the region and also to help the teams stand firm in their quest to bring Premier League Football to the Region.

The 2023/2024 Access Bank Division One League will see three teams from the Upper West Region competing in it. The teams are Wa Suntaa Sporting Club, Maana Football Club and Wa Power Sporting Club.

Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin is determined to go the extra mile to help horne, develop and promote talents in football in the region.

Review of Wa Power Sporting Club season

Wa Power Sporting Club have had a wonderful season in the 2022/2023 Upper West Division 2 League and in the MTN FA Cup.

The “We Can” family have played a total of twenty-two (22) competitive games and lost only one (1) whiles drawing three (3). They have scored 56 goals and conceded 15 goals within this period.

The only game Wa Power SC lost was in the MTN FA Cup Round of 32 against Debibi United Football Club at the Wa Malik Park by 1-3. That was the only game the Dobile bases team conceded more than 2 goals throughout the season.

Against Kpongu Tang FC in the Upper West Regional Division 2 League, was the only game Wa Power SC failed to score a goal.

They have gone unbeaten in the Upper West Regional Division 2 League from the group phase through to the middle league.

Wa Power Sporting Club have qualified into the Access Bank Division One League for the first time in their history.

Upper West Region this season will have three teams competing in the National Division One League.

I have never missed a penalty in a competitive game: Abdul Razak Toufiq Champion

In an interview with the experienced left-back, formerly of Wa All Stars SC, King Faisal and Elman SC in Somalia, Abdul Razak Toufiq, concerning his personality, skills and interest in the game, he made us know that he has never missed a penalty in a competitive game in his career so far.

He was responding to a question on how he has been called “Champion”.

“Growing up as a young football player at my cose level, one time at training grounds we were to take 5 penalty kicks and I was the only player to score all the 5 kicks so my manager called me Champion and that is how the name came about.”

“So from there, I have never lost a penalty in a competitive game.”

Prior to the start of the 2022/2023 season, Toufiq was with Tamale City FC having trials but was not seen the final list of the Citizens. Responding to this, he said the deal went off in the last minute. “The deal did not go through in the die minute”, he said.

“My past teams have together made me a better player for making sure I am discipline on and off the field and also be determined.” A response to how his former clubs have made him a better player.

The former King Faisal player believes in team work. “If team work is not there, I do not think you can achieve your goal as a team.”

He is now a student of UBIDS in the Upper West Region. One of the few footballers that combine books and boots in Ghana. “When you have the love for something, definitely you will get time for that particular thing, and I have time for my training and for my lectures”, he added.

“I am working towards next season Insha’allah”, he said.

Abdul Razak Toufiq Champion has been without a club after King Faisal FC have released him prior to the start of the 2022/2023 season.

The most successful season of my career was the 2015/2016 season: Abdul Razak Toufiq

The former King Faisal FC and Elman SC left-back in an interview with Famzs Media said his most successful season so far in his football career was the 2015/2016 season.

In the 2015/2016 GN Bank Division One League Zone One, Abdul Razak Toufiq Champion was with Bolga All Stars Sporting Club and played a vital role on their way to the 2016/2017 Ghana Premier League.

“2015/2016 was the most successful in my sports career. This was because I was part of the squad that qualified Bolga All Stars Sporting Club into the Ghana Premier League for the first time in the history of Upper East, and again qualifying Elman SC in the Somalia Premier League to play for SACAFA.”

Bolga All Stars SC needed a win over Tamale Utrecht in the last game of the season in which they won by 2 goals to nil and secured their slot.

Victor Osimhen — Best African International Award

Victor Osimhen picked the Best African International award at the Ghana Football Awards ceremony last night. The Napoli SC and Super Eagles of Nigeria striker had the world calling his name in the 2022/2023 football season after helping Napoli SC clinched the Squdetto after so many years scoring 26 league goals and providing 4 assists.

Ernest Appiah Nuamah — Odartey Lamptey Future Star Award

Ernest Appiah Nuamah (19), made his Black Stars debut in last week’s AFCON Qualify against Madagascar and had won the hearts of many Ghanaians. In the 2022/2023 Denmark Superliga, Nuamah had 30 league appearance, had 12 goals and provided 4 assists. He is a promising player for Ghana.

Sampson Eduku — Male Home-based Footballer Of The Year

Sampson Eduku beat the likes of Hafiz Wontah Konkoni, Abednego Tetteh and others to win the Home-Based Footballer of the Year award last night. The striker in the 2022/2023 betPawa Premier League had 14 goals for the Citizens of Tamale.

Mary Amponsah — Female Home-based Footballer Of The Year

Mary Amponsah have had 16 goals in the 2022/2023 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League leading her side, Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC to win their 4th title.

Serge Eric Zeze — Goal Of The Season

Eric Zeze’s sublime finish against Aduana Stars wins the Goal of the Season Award at the 2023 Ghana Football Awards. The 22-year old box-box midfielder joined Asante Kotoko SC from ASEC Mimosas.

Abednego Tetteh — Ghana Premier League Goal King Award

Having struggled with King Faisal FC and Accra Hearts of Oak, Abednego Tetteh found his goal scoring boots at Bibiani Gold Stars. 16 goals after joining them in the second transfer window from Hearts of Oak where he had only 2 goals in the 2022/2023 betPawa Premier League.

Medeama SC — Male Team Of The Year

The Takwa based club have written their name in the history book of the Ghana Premier League after lifting the trophy for the first time in the history of the club, and for the first in 46-years, a team from Western Region have won the GPL title after Secondi Hasaacas FC won it in 1977.

Evans Adotey — Men’s Coach Of The Year

Evans Adotey is the Technical Director of Medeama Sporting Club and he took over the club after Umar Rabbi midway through the season and went on to win the GPL title for the first time for the Yellow Mauve.

Felix Kyei — Goalkeeper Of The Year Award

20-year old Felix Kyei joined Medeama Sporting Club as free agent and has since emerged as one of the good goalkeepers in the betPawa Premier League. He has won numerous goalkeeper of the month awards in the just ended GPL, and has helped his side clinched their first ever GPL title. Felix Kyei appeared in 29 matches for the league champions, conceding 21 goals and maintaining 15 clean sheets.

Medeama Sporting Club have announced a deal with Fiase Golden Royal Ladies FC as the official women’s team

The 2022/2023 betPawa Premier League champions, Medeama Sporting Club have today, Thursday, June 21, 2023 announced a partnership agreement with Western Region Women’s Division One League side Fiase Golden Royal Ladies as the official women’s team.

This comes after Confederation of African Football have announced that all the 2023/2024 CAF Competition participants should have a women’s team else would not be allowed to take in the competitions.

Speaker Alban Bagbin to support Medeama Sporting Club with GHC100K

Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament has pledged to support the 2022/2023 betPawa Premier League with GHC100,000 to enable them have a good campaign in next season’s CAF Champions League.

The speaker made this known on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 in Accra at the parliament when the team visited the house as part of the trophy tour.

“So Medeama SC, I want to assure you that the house is with you and I will proceed to pledge which you can take up from me anytime an amount of GH₵100, 000 now to support you. This is the time to enjoy, refresh, motivate and incentivizs yourself ahead for the task ahead, we are with you. Congratulations,” he said.

The speaker added,

“I want to on your behalf commit the house to go with them all the way to the continent to ensure that they win the African Cup for Ghana.

This I will proceed to enforce to ensure that they get the necessary resources and motivation to surprise the continent by winning the cup.”

Medeama Sporting Club won the league for the first in their history against Aduana Stars with 5 points clear.

Division One League Super Cup 3rd edition comes off in August

Eight teams from the just ended Division One League will take part in the 3rd edition of the Super Cup to be held in Kumasi.

Winners of Zone 1B, Bofoakwa Tano, alongside Young Apostles and Eleven Wonders will compete from Zone. Whiles Nations FC, former champions Skyy FC and Nzema Kotoko make up the list of clubs from Zone Two with Koforidua Semper FI and Hearts of Lions representing Zone Three.

The 2-week competition shall climax on the Sunday, August 13, 2023 at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.

Daboase based Skyy FC won the first edition after beating Tema Youth SC at the Madina Astro Turf before Liberty Professionals beat Nsoatreman FC to win the second edition at Kyebi in the Eastern Region.

This year’s edition will take place in August 2023.

Coach Aziz Kandumah John end of season message

Wa Power Sporting Club coach has once again shown his supersonic tactics in the just ended Upper West Regional Division II League after guiding his side to the ultimate in an unbeaten run.

On his Facebook page, he delivered an end of season message to the football fraternity of Upper West Region. He wrote:

“Football they say is a team sport built on trident of stakeholders namely the players, technical/managerial team and the fans or supporters. It is a game dependent on these trident stakeholders as seen in the team jubilation and pains in defeat.

The 2022/23 Regional Football season could not have ended in a better way than this triumphant campaign we enjoyed together. I , Kandumah John, wants to use this platform to extend my appreciation to every single stakeholder who believed , supported or motivated the power project.

Firstly, to the Cheif Executive Officer (CEO) of Wa Power SC, Mr Musah Salifu and his managment. I thank you for finding faith and favour in me as head coach of the “We can” family and project. You provided an evironment that was work freindly and formed the bases for our brilliant display through out the season. There were times we disgreed to agree on few occasions but that never affected our focus. I must say you and your team are an excellent group of people and may you continue to be steadfast in all your footballing sojourn.

The players deserve a large amount of credit. It would have been easy for heads to go down after the third game and eventually give up, but they kept at it and got a huge reward. It is clear to see that our players have given a lot to the club and the football community this season right from the MTN FA Cup till the end of the 2022/23 Upper West Division II Season. They have really invested their time and energy in what we have achieved. I would like to thank our Club captain ABDUL MOOMIN IDDRISS and his deputy TINGAN MAXIMUS. They played such a leading role in the dressing room, on and off the pitch and all of the players for their character, integrity, work ethic and commitment.
I would also like to thank Mr Joseph Kobina Fosu my techinical director and his techinical committee for for their techinical guidance. They contributed so much to the techinical advancement of the players and techinical bench through out the season. I say bravo for your contributions.

To the true owners of the club(supporters) your support for the club this season has been magnificent, particularly during the middle league. I know that many of you sacrifed or risked your jobs and businesses during this middle league because of the timing of some fixtures. You contributed in your little ways, physically and financially to compliment the efforts of managment towards the succuss we achieved. The sense of trust and togetherness was visible all throughout the season . We have to continue to exceed expectations and try to bring more people into the Wa Power SC family. Without you beside us, there is no doubt this season’s achievement might not have been on this scale.
My collegue coaches, I am most grateful for your collective or individual, technical advices and moral encouragement through out the season particularly Coach NAJAHU ISSAH of Kumasi Asanti Kotoko SC. I am forever indebted to you for your role in my status as a coach, Coach Beleiver of Nsuatreman FC, I appreciate your continues guidance, Coach Suleman Rufai you have been an extra odinary brother I am grateful for all you have done for me.

Jerry Angleoha wins Best Goalkeeper Award in Upper West Regional Division II League

The Wa Power Sporting Club goalkeeper was given the best goalkeeper’s award after their victory over Golden FC yesterday at the Wa Malik Jabir for his immense performance he put during the season.

Jerry, who had kept 5 clean sheets and conceding only 5 goals during the first phase of the league continued with that performance into the middle league.

After 5 games in the middle league, he kept 3 more clean sheets and conceded 2 more goals bringing his total number of clean sheets to 8 and number of goals conceded to 7. This statistics made him the right choice for the award over his colleagues in the league.

Wa Power Sporting Club have totally kept 15 clean sheets in the entire Upper West Regional Division II League and have gone the league unbeaten.

Wa FC striker wins top scorer in the just ended Upper West Regional Division II League

Wa FC sensational striker Samuel Awuah on the top scorer award in the just ended Upper West Regional Division II League with 12 goals.

The striker has been on fire right from the beginning of league scoring back-to-back goals with some being hat trick. He was the main for his side throughout the league.

Wa FC finished the first phase of the league second behind Wa United FC and found their way into the middle league.

Wa FC ( Sore Nante FC ) finished 4th in the middle league and gained qualification into next season’s MTN FA Cup preliminary stage.

Issahaku Wahidu was named the Most Valuable Player in the just ended Upper West Regional Division II League

Issahaku Wahidu was named the best player of the just ended Upper West Regional Division II League for his immense performance he put out to help his team clinched the ultimuuate and had qualification into next season’s Access Bank Division One League.

The former Ghana Premier League midfield maestro has been pivotal throughout the campaign and has scored 11 goals in that division making him the midfielder with most goals including a hat trick, his first in his career against Kowie Eva Stars.

Issahaku Wahid is not new in the National Division One League as he was the muskman during his days at Wa Suntaa Sporting Club.

Hafiz Wontah Konkoni donates to Upper West Juvenile League top scorer

The Bechem United FC and Ghana Black Stars striker have donated replica jersey and an undisclosed amount to Nuhu Mohammed Sherif of Wa Yaasin Juniors FC as the top scorer of the just ended Upper West Regional Juvenile League.

Wa Yaasin Juniors FC won the juvenile middle league after beating their counterparts, Future Stars FC in the finals of the middle league. They will represent the region in this year’s KGL tournament in Kumasi.

The donation was done on his behalf by his social media manager and his entourage at the Wa Malik Jabir Park after the final game of the Upper West Middle League today.

Hafiz Wontah Konkoni have once again showed his masterclass performance in the just ended betPawa Premier League after netting 15 goals which enabled him to get a late call-up to join the Ghana Black Stars ahead of the Afcon qualifies against Madagascar on Sunday.

Wa Power Sporting Club secure Division One League slot after beating Golden FC

Wa Power SC secure their first ever National Division One League slot after beating their rivals in the Upper West Regional Division 2 Middle League at the Wa Malik Jabir Park by 2:1 goal.

Their plorific striker, Abdul Karimu, broke the virginity of the game on the 61′ minute after connecting a rolling ball from Gary Philip. On the 83′ minute, Ibrahim Gafaru of Golden FC pulled it the goal back before Mabrouk Coster, another fantastic forward got the second goal of the game on the 89′ minute.

The first 45′ minutes of the game was a much ado about nothing for both teams were eager to control the game.

Wa Power SC led by Coach Abdul Aziz Kandumah John have gone the whole Upper West Regional Division 2 League unbeaten through to the middle league. Coach Aziz Kandumah John is seen as Division 2 expect for the wonderful work he been doing in that division.

He once qualified Wa Suntaa Sporting Club into the National Division One League in 2016 unbeaten and has repeated it in 2023, 7 years down the line.

Their qualification takes the number of Division One teams to three, Wa Suntaa Sporting Club, Maana Football Club and Wa Power Sporting Club.

Wa Yaasin Juniors Football Club emerged champions of the Upper West Juvenile League

Wa Yassin Juniors FC emerged winners of the 2022/2023 Upper West Juvenile League after topping the juvenile middle league.

Bechem United Football Club sensational striker earns a call up into the Senior Men’s National Team ahead of the Afcon Qualifies against Madagascar later this month.

The striker had a wonderful season with Hunters after scoring 15 league goals and helping his side finished 3rd on the league table.

Though finishing as the second top scorer behind Abednego Tetteh of Bibiani Gold Stars in the league, he will report to camp to start preparations ahead of the qualifies.

Camping starts Monday, June 12, 2023.
