Pre-season/Preparation
Preseason includes all the activities that usually precedes the football season, it includes the recruitment of Technical staff and players, Physical, Psychogical, Technical and Tactical Preparation of the team as well as playing of preparatory matches to assess some individual players, groups, the team and experiment some new tactics.
Its activities are largely influenced by your ambitions. A good preseason does not mean winning preseason matches, it means recruiting the right technical staff and players and how the techinical team improves each player and the team. If you do proper Technical and Player recruitment you are 85% successful in preseason. We have seen clubs with flourishing results during preseason who tumbled during the league whilst clubs who also had poor run of results at preseason winning doubles and trebles in the season. So don’t judge your team by preseason results.
Clubs that aren’t able to have the six weeks required preseason mostly resort to “ECONOMIC” training during the season either than that you would breakdown your players during Competition or inseason.
Post or off-season
This is a time of suspended or reduced activity especially the time during which a players do not train nor compete. Players are supposed to have a minimum of six weeks and maximum of ten weeks rest after the season, studies have shown that players who train or compete all year round retire from football earlier than those who observe rest during off season.
Clubs are also supposed to use this session to do an introspection of the just ended season, this introspection should be done on thematic areas like
√ Technical assessment on players and Technical staff for the just ended season.
√ Training equipment and logistics whether they were adequate or inadequate?
√ Financial in – Flow and out – Flow
√ Budget for the next season.
Let’s get the distinctions and plan properly towards the next Upper West Division Two Season.
