WHEN THEY REFUSED TO TOUCH ME

With umpteen wishes I materialized as a dark-skinned miss!
I beamed with bliss, with no insight of the discrimination that prevailed!
I dreamt! I dreamt, breaking all the peripheries that enveloped me!
I treasured everyone inside my blind heart, to which the appearances were unseeable!

I wished to spend my days and nights peacefully, with my pals and kinsfolk!
But, all my chimeras were shattered WHEN THEY REFUSED TO TOUCH ME!

They refused to touch me, for I was painted black!
They refused to spot and shelter the glittering soul!
They refused to touch the oozing ink which bled on papers!
They refused to admire the vibrant colors, decorated by my brushes!
They refused to have a glimpse of the snapshots that made my day!
They refused to lend their ears when I esteemed this society!

Now, a lifeless lass, I’m; with deceased imaginations!
With tear-drops, I beseeched the almighty to open their hearts!
I was utterly flabbergasted when he touched my soul to wipe the tears!
Then, I asked myself, “Why not, wake-up the lamented goals?”
A stalwart dreamer, I’m! Heading towards the peak with my audacity!
I’m in love now; in love with the mirror!

Oh yes, they refused to touch me.
But, the coups that resides on my shoulder, makes them crave for my autograph!
Oh yes, this odious society refused to touch me,
But the indefatigable warrior in me survived!
So, don’t die for the vile words!

P.S – Racism everywhere! But I’m a proud brown girl. I love my skin colour. I don’t want yellow pastes to make my skin glow like the moon. Black is beautiful! Brown is beautiful! Every single shade has got its own pulchritude!
